1. Evaluations - Mandatory for All U18 Winter Players

AMBA travel teams play in the Calgary Minor Basketball Association (CMBA), which requires players to be placed on tiered teams based on skill level. Tiered teams allow athletes to play alongside others at a similar skill level, helping them build confidence, develop appropriately, and experience success on the court. This structure supports AMBA’s goal of being both developmental in nature and competitive in spirit. 

As a result, we do not accept requests for team placement based on friendships or coach preferences. 

We truly want every athlete to be placed on the team that best fits their skill level. While the evaluation process isn’t perfect, we do our absolute best to ensure fair and thoughtful placements.

All athletes must attend evaluations to be placed on a team. (if you are unable to attend we will use data from previous years)

If your athlete will be absent from evaluations or has an injury that may affect their participation/performance, please let us know by replying to this email. If your athlete cannot attend, they will be placed on the lowest-tiered team until reassessed, however reassessment is not guaranteed. 

2. Evaluation Structure

If you are a returning AMBA player please bring your AMBA Jersey.  If you are new to AMBA you will be assigned a number bib at check-in. 

There will be one session on December 21, 2025 from 7:00 to 8:30 which will consist of skill play and 5v5 game play.

3. Dates, Times & Location

Location: Prolific Sports North, 292212 Wagon Wheel Blvd, Rocky View, AB

Dates & Times:

• Sunday December 21,2025 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Arrival

• 15-20 mins early 
  
  

4. What to Bring

• Size 7 basketball (required, basketballs will not be provided)
• Clean indoor shoes
• Water bottle
• Label all items clearly

Parents may help with check-in but are asked to leave during the session.

5. Volunteer Deposit Requirement

If you paid via E-Transfer, KidSport, or JumpStart, you must provide a $250 deposit (cheque post-dated March 30, 2026, payable to Airdrie Minor Basketball Association) per athlete at evaluations. If you paid by credit card through the registration website your volunteer deposit has been taken and you do not need to bring a post dated cheque.

Alternatively, you can e-transfer the deposit to: treasurer@airdriebasketball.ca 

Note: Your account must be fully paid and you must have provided your volunteer deposit for your athlete to participate in evaluations.

6. Team Placement, Practices and Start of the season

The winter league games start on January 3, 2026. You will be placed on a team by Tuesday December 23, 2025 and a practice schedule will be uploaded into RAMP by Dec 29 ,2025.
