2023/24 AMBA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

AMBA is pleased to extend the opportunity to apply for two $500 scholarships, which will be conferred upon two individuals in recognition of their significant contributions to the growth of AMBA within the community. The Sean Smith Memorial Scholarship is dedicated to commemorating Sean’s passion for sports, enjoyment of playing, team spirit, and sportsmanship. This distinguished award is reserved for a current or past AMBA player. Similarly, the Colin McKenna Memorial Scholarship honors Colin's philanthropic nature and his commitment to basketball within our community. This particular accolade is reserved for a current or past AMBA volunteer, coach, or referee.

Eligibility for an AMBA Scholarship is extended to all individuals who have been associated with AMBA, whether in the past or present capacity, encompassing coaches, volunteers, players, referees, and committee/board members.

Applicants must be presently enrolled in a full-time post-secondary program and are required to submit a concise essay as part of the application process. A dedicated Scholarship Committee will meticulously assess the candidates' eligibility and essays, selecting one deserving recipient for each scholarship. It is noteworthy that all names and specific identifying information are expunged from the essays before undergoing review.

Successful candidates are mandated to furnish current proof of enrollment in a post-secondary program before the disbursement of the scholarship. It is imperative to note that individuals who have previously received an AMBA Scholarship are ineligible for subsequent awards. However, an exception is made for 2021 Scholarship winners, who remain eligible for one additional AMBA scholarship, considering 2021 as a Bonus year.

For the current year, AMBA is accepting scholarship applications from January 8th to February 26, 2024. The scholarship recipients will be announced on March 4th. To initiate the application process, interested individuals are encouraged to access the application form by clicking

• Anyone who has been involved with AMBA (past or present) is eligible for an AMBA Scholarship (coaches, volunteers, players, referees, committee/board members).  
• Applicants must be currently enrolled in a full-time post-secondary program, and will need to complete a short essay.
• A Scholarship Committee will review the applicants’ candidacy and essays, choosing one winner for each scholarship. (All names and specific identifying information are removed from the essays before review.)
• Winners must show current proof of enrollment in a post-secondary program before the Scholarship is dispersed. 
• Previous Scholarship winners are ineligible for further AMBA Scholarships. Exception: 2021 Scholarship winners are eligible to be awarded one more AMBA scholarship, as 2021 was a Bonus year.
