AMBA Runs on Community

AMBA is a non-profit organization that thrives on the contribution of time and expertise from volunteers. All AMBA Board and Committee members, Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and Team Managers are unpaid volunteers who contribute hundreds of hours each season to support our players.

To continue growing and improving, we rely on all families involved in AMBA to donate some time to the association. In 2011, AMBA established a mandatory volunteer commitment policy. By registering your player, you agree to the terms and conditions of this policy.

AMBA also welcomes volunteers who do not have a child participating in our program. Depending on the position, a Vulnerable Sector Check may be required. To apply, select your role during registration or email volunteer@airdriebasketball.ca.

Volunteer Deposit — How It Works

During registration, you will be charged $0.01, and a post-dated payment of $249.99 will be set for the end of the season. If paying by E-Transfer, KidSport, or JumpStart, you must provide a $250 deposit cheque post-dated to end of season, or an e-transfer within 24 hours of registration per athlete.

Anyone who does not fulfill their volunteer requirement will have their post-dated fee charged at the end of the season. It is the responsibility of parents, caregivers, and players to ensure their commitments are met — do not rely on coaches, team managers, or AMBA to remind you.

The Requirement

Each player on a team must have a family member fill one Team Role or one Alternate Volunteer Opportunity role per season. Jr NBA is exempt from most Team Roles due to the structure of that program.

Coach

Must be approved by AMBA.

CMBA coaches training required (every 2 years)

Role 2

Assistant Coach

Must be approved by AMBA.

Role 3

Player Evaluator

Must have basketball knowledge.

Two sessions must be completed to fulfill the volunteer requirement.

Role 4

Team Manager

Must be approved by AMBA. Responsibilities include:

Report volunteer concerns to the Volunteer Coordinator

Input jersey names on TeamLinkt

Arrange supplies for coaches (balls, pumps, score sheets, etc.)

Submit game scores and photos of score sheets

Relay AMBA communications to the team

Role 5

Timekeeper / Scorekeeper

Required for all games in a season, including tournaments.

Coordinate to ensure one volunteer is present at every game

Submit score sheet photos to Team Manager after games

Divide the time commitment equally among volunteers

Gym Monitor

Required for games throughout the season.

Identify yourself to the Community Use Supervisor or join the referees’ meeting

Ensure cleanliness and order in the gym

Submit incident reports to AMBA or CMBA as required

Alternate Volunteer Opportunities

Board or Committee Member Join AMBA’s volunteer Board or one of our committees. See Open AMBA Positions → for current vacancies.	Equipment Locker Volunteers must assist at the equipment locker at least three times during the season. Tasks: sorting uniforms, preparing coaches’ ball bags, prepping first aid kits, and collecting equipment.
Financial Auditor Must be approved by AMBA. Reviews and approves AMBA’s annual financial report. Appointed at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).	Mini House Tournament Help run the annual Mini House Tournament. Roles include Door Monitor and equipment collection.
CMBA Casino AMBA members can work at CMBA’s local casino events to fulfill their volunteer requirement for the season.
