AMBA SCHOLARSHIPS


2020 AMBA Sean Smith and AMBA Colin McKenna Memorial Scholarships

AMBA is proud to offer two Scholarships, awarded annually, to two individuals who have contributed to the growth of AMBA in the community. 

The AMBA Sean Smith Memorial Scholarship is valued at $500.  Sean is remembered for his love of sports, joy of playing, his team spirit and sportsmanship.

The AMBA Colin McKenna Memorial Scholarship is valued at $500.  Colin is remembered for his generous spirit, love and dedication to basketball within our community.

  • Anyone who has been involved with AMBA (past or present) is eligible to qualify for an AMBA Scholarship (coaches, players, committee/board members etc).  

  • Scholarships are awarded based on a written essay. 

  • A Scholarship Committee will review the essays submitted and choose one winner for each scholarship (All names and specific identifying information are removed from the essays before review).

  • Applicants must be intending to attend post-secondary in September, 2020 and will be required to show proof of acceptance before the Scholarship is dispersed. 

  • Previous Scholarship winners are ineligible for further AMBA Scholarships.

Scholarship applications & Essays must be completed in full and received by AMBA no later than 12:00 p.m. on April 10, 2020.

2019 AMBA Scholarships - Recap

The 2019 scholarship applications have been reviewed and we are pleased to announce our winners!

The AMBA Sean Smith Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Ryan Wark. Ryan has been a strong contributor to the AMBA, supporting the organization in a number of areas as player, referee and coach.  He has been a compassionate and caring team player has also assisted with player evaluations. Ryan will be attending the University of Alberta in the fall where he will be entering a nursing program. Exciting times ahead for Ryan and we know he will be successful in his future endeavours.

The  AMBA Colin McKenna Memorial Scholarship is awarded to Emma McNeil. Emma has played with AMBA from Bantam until her final Juvy year. Emma has also refereed and mentored for the AMBA and volunteers throughout the season. Emma is currently attending St. Mary's University pursuing a double-degree in History and Education with aspirations of being a Social Studies teacher.

Congratulations to both Emma and Ryan!
