COACHING
Do you want to make a difference in the life of Airdrie and area youth? Do you want to get out in the community, get some exercise and increase your own game knowledge? Coaching for AMBA is the perfect solution!
Each year AMBA utilizes the expertise of 50 - 60 volunteer head coaches and assistant coaches to deliver our community youth basketball program in Airdrie. Age-appropriate training is provided for all coaches for no charge.
Time and knowledge commitment
- Jr NBA
- (1) 45-minute practice per week, plus approximately 20 minutes planning time per week for the 12-week duration.
- All curriculum is provided with a lesson plan and drills provided for each week.
- Mini House
- (1) one-hour practice, (1) game and approximately 20 minutes planning time per week from mid-October - mid-February.
- Coaches can (optionally) attend the CMBA-provided training. CMBA training consists of a three-hour on-court session in Airdrie, and a three-hour theory session in Calgary.
- Additional lesson plans and drills are provided.
- U11
- (1) one-and-a-half hours practice (In Airdrie Area) and games in Calgary, plus approximately 30 minutes planning time per week.
- Coaches must attend the required CMBA-provided training once every two years; however, you can attend every year. CMBA training consists of a three-hour on-court session and a three-hour theory session in Calgary.
- Access to videos, documentation, drills and diagrams available on CMBA website.
- U11-U18
- (2) one-and-a-half hours practice a week (in Airdrie Area) and games in Calgary, plus approximately 30 minutes planning time per week.
- Coaches must attend the required CMBA-provided training once every two years; however, you can attend every year. CMBA training consists of a three-hour on-court session and a three-hour theory session in Calgary.

How to become an AMBA coach:
- Fill out a Coaching Intake Form
- Read over AMBAs Volunteer Screening Policy
- If you are not an AMBA member (you don't have a family member in our program), fill out AMBAs Volunteer Application Form and return it to volunteer@airdriebasketball.ca
- We’ll let you know if your child’s team is still in need of a coach and send you information on obtaining an RCMP Vulnerable Sectors Check if we are moving forward with your coaching position. If you have a Vulnerable Sectors Check that has been completed in the last three years, please forward a copy (scan or picture) to volunteer@airdriebasketball.ca
