The 2020 AMBA AGM is now behind us! Thank you to all those who joined us via Zoom for a recap of our past season. For those of you who couldn't join us, we'd like to provide a few highlights of the meeting:
We had 2 Directors retire from the Board at the end of the season:
Crystal Fyten was a member of the board for a number of years and invested countless hours in her role as the Registrar. Working with parents, players, coaches and volunteers, she has been an asset to the team offering a wealth of knowledge and experience to our members. Crystal's attention to detail helped ensure that many of the small, behind-the-scenes tasks required by the organization were covered. She will be greatly missed.
Monika Jones was also a long standing, valuable member of the board, committing hours upon hours as the Gym Scheduler. Her creativity in finding ways to overcome obstacles when it came to locating and securing gym space were very important to our organization operating and growing. Mastering the "puzzle" of creating a schedule for all teams each week is also an amazing talent of hers that was greatly appreciated. We are also sad to see her go.
Crystal & Monika have been working this past season with their replacements to ensure a smooth transition of the new Committee members into their roles. On behalf of the AMBA, we want to thank Crystal and Monika for all of their commitment and support over the years and we wish them the very best in the future.
We would like to officially welcome some new members to the Committee: Heather Swain and Selena Carroll joined the team last season to shadow the Registrar and Gym Scheduler roles (respectively). We are excited to see them in action this year and are looking forward to their contributions.
The new Board of Directors was also elected at the AGM. With Crystal and Monika leaving, we had 2 vacancies. Jocelyn Slivinski and Melissa MacEachern were elected as the 2 newest Board members to fill those vacancies. Both joined the AMBA Committee last season; Jocelyn as one of the Equipment Coordinators and Melissa as the Jr NBA/Volunteer Coordinator. They have contributed immensely to the team over the past year, both in ideas for the organization as well as time given to ensure their areas within AMBA were run smoothly. The remaining 5 Directors from last season, Jared Arcus, Stew Gerber, Lori Ann De Bokx, Travis Read and Angie Seerup were re-elected to a Directors seat for this upcoming season.
Congratulations to Austin Clarke and David Doerksen as the recipients of our 2020 AMBA Memorial Scholarships!
Our Board is working diligently to open up registration for the upcoming season for mid July. With the good news about sports opening back up, we are optimistic for the fall basketball season. While we don't have all of the answers yet about what the 2020-2021 season will look like, we will open registration without taking payment at that time. Once we have more answers about gyms space that is available and what rules will be in place, we can set a plan to move forward, establish fees and notify those that are registered. Please keep in mind that if our program needs to be altered in the fall due to the pandemic restrictions, we cannot guarantee that registering means that you will be playing.
The future for basketball next season is looking brighter and we'll continue to stay in touch with ongoing updates as the season approaches.
Stay safe, and we hope to see you on the courts!
